The Youth of St. Leonard
Identity
The Youth of the St. Leonard Family is an international movement.
It gathers young people from every country where the Congregation of St. Joseph is present.
These are: Italy, Spain, Albania, Romania, India, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau, Ghana, Mexico, United States, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador
Purpose
The purpose of the Youth of the St. Leonard Family is to embrace the spirit of St. Leonard, and live according to it.
The purpose is accomplished by:
- exploring the spirituality of the founder;
- treasuring the values which he lived;
- appropriating his ideals and teachings;
- celebrating the Way of St. Leonard as incarnated in the various cultures of the world.
Eligibility
Qualifications for membership include:
- At least 18 years old
- Association with the Congregation of St. Joseph over a period of time
- Involvement in the ministry of the Congregation (basically, youth work) through positions of leadership, service, support
- The choice to embrace the Spirit of St. Leonard as the inspiration for one's life
Events
Major activities of the local Youth of the St. Leonard Family have included:
- Participation in World Youth Day in Rome (2000), Toronto (2002), Cologne (2005) and Sydney (2008)
- A week long international seminar in Avon
- A National Meeting in Albuquerque, NM
Local Envolvement
Locally, the Youth of the St. Leonard Family
- Offers two Discernment Retreats every year
- Joins in the celebration of the Feast of St. Leonard
- Assists with retreats and camps at the SLYRC
- Participates in service projects, pilgrimages and formation opportunities
