FOR RELIGIOUS VOCATIONS

  • ST. JOSEPH, MODEL OF FAITH

St. Joseph, you are our model of faith: you believed the message of the Angel; you welcomed God into your life; you agreed to share in the deepest of mysteries, the Incarnation. When your child Jesus was born, you adored him and protected him. Forced with tough decisions and violent threats, you placed your confidence in the light of God, without challenging or questioning his plan for you.

Make our faith like yours, our father St. Joseph. Make it the guide of our daily actions. May we see, in the perspective of faith, the finger of God in all daily events. Inspire us to share freely and generously in God’s work of grace.

Glory be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

  • ST. JOSEPH, MODEL OF HOPE

St. Joseph, you were a man of hope. You shared the hope of one day seeing the redemption of humankind accomplished; you hoped for safety for Mary and Jesus; in the events and hardships surrounding the birth of your son, your only strength was your firm hope in the goodness and fidelity of the Lord.

St. Joseph, teach us to hope as you did: against all obstacles, before all evils. Remind us that no matter the circumstances in our lives, our creator is faithful to us and close at hand. Make our life a life sparkling with hopefulness, transforming us into persons of unwavering hope.

Glory Be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

  • ST. JOSEPH, MODEL OF LOVE

Joseph, you loved Mary as a tender, faithful husband. With her, you played a unique part in the most beautiful act of love ever done by a human being: bringing the savior of the world to our earth!

God, who is love, lived in your house. He ate at your table, shared the intimacy of your home life, of every moment, joyful and difficult, of your experience. The whole purpose of your life centered on love: love of Mary, your spouse, and of Jesus, your son and Lord.

St. Joseph, grant us the love you lived. Open our eyes to see that all love comes from God. Reveal to us the power of love. Open our hearts to love, and we will change the face of the earth! Make our lives a total act of love for God and neighbor.

Glory be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

  • ST. JOSEPH, FATHER OF JESUS

Joseph, you truly were a father to Jesus. The son of God was known as the Carpenter’s Son even by the people of Nazareth. You tenderly cared for Jesus in the womb of Mary; you gave him his name; you provided for him in his childhood, you educated him in the love of God, you formed him in his teenage years; you assisted him into his passage to manhood. You taught him to admire the lilies of the fields, to understand how seed grows and how birds feed…

St. Joseph, be a father to us. Show us your love. Teach us to love children and adults as you loved Jesus. By our love, may these learn to appreciate what is true, pure, noble, beautiful and just.

Glory Be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

  • ST. JOSEPH, SPOUSE OF MARY

Joseph, Mary, the mother of God, the mother of the Savior, was your wife. You dedicated your life to her, and she to you. Your love was filled with mutual attention. Your union was strong to overcome the difficulties of your life together. Your mutual love blossomed in the presence of the Son of God!

St. Joseph, teach us to love freely, tenderly, passionately. Make us kind, devoted to, appreciative of one another. Grant us sincerity and fidelity in loving, so that our love may witness to God’s presence among us. May we welcome the Son of God into our lives and be his heralds to the world of youth.

Glory Be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

  • ST. JOSEPH, MAN OF PRAYER

Joseph, according to the Jewish tradition, it was your duty , as the head of your family, to teach Jesus the love of God, and the stories prayers, poems and songs of the Scriptures. You explained to him the meaning of the sacred signs,  gestures, and religious ceremonies. As a true and good father to Jesus, you walked with him the first steps of his journey with God. He learned from you to affectionately address you as “daddy”, just as he would address his own heavenly Father in his adult life.

St. Joseph, show us how to be familiar with God. In the silence of our lives, inspire us to perceive the whisper of God’s loving word to us. Teach us to fall on our knees in adoration and awe as you did before the newly born Prince of Peace. May we value immensely those moments when we invite God to be a part of our life, and receive him with faith into our souls.

Glory be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

  • ST. JOSEPH, THE JUST MAN

Joseph, you were known as a “just man”: right in the eyes of God, right in the eyes of the law, right in the eyes of all. You are “just” because you lived in harmony with God’s will. You are “just” because you treasured the word of God. You are “just” because you respecter and cared for others, and taught Jesus to do the same.

St. Joseph, teach us to be just. Open our minds to the fairness of our Creator. Show us how to be worthy of calling God our Lord. Make us live in faithfulness to our Creator’s plan and to the Church’s needs. Help us to share our treasure with others, because to love is to share.

Glory be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

  • ST. JOSEPH, THE WORKER

Joseph, you labored and struggled like any other human being. God chose you , a dedicated worker, a skillful artisan, an experienced craftsman as his own Son’s father on earth. You put your whole being into your work. Your labor became an expression of love for the Lord. Measuring, cutting, planning, sawing, nailing were your daily bread.

St. Joseph, teach us to love our work because it is the means of our redemption. Make our work a source of fulfillment and joy. May we complete our tasks with justice and honesty, and always for the love of you. Help us to see God’s grace at work in us whenever we find ourselves at work.

Glory be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

  • ST. JOSEPH, MAN OF OBEDIENCE

Joseph, your entire life was an act of obedience to the mysterious plan of God. You took Mary as your faithful spouse on the word of an Angel. After the birth of Jesus, you escaped with him and Mary into Egypt on the word of an Angel. You promptly returned from Egypt on the word of an Angel. Your immediate, blind obedience stands out as one of the main characteristics of your personality.

St. Joseph, attune our ears to the voices of angels carrying God’s message to us today. Make us aware of the “signs of the times” guide us to interpret them in the light of faith.  Help us to discern the plan of God in the midst of all our own plans. Champion of obedience to God, grant us obedience to our Catholic faith, to our Church, to our Congregation and to each other.

Glory be.

We honor you St. Joseph, protector of the Church on earth; please send us new vocations, increase our family.

St. Joseph,

Your figure in the Gospel story

Grounds Jesus in the family of David

And warrants his claim as the anointed one of God.

Ground me in the heart of God.

Deepen my roots in the Catholic family.

Strengthen my faith

To claim Jesus

As my only hope of salvation.

Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH FOR ONE’S CHILDREN

St. Joseph,

educator of Jesus, head of the Holy Family:

I place my children into your expert hands.

I have sown the seed of faith in their hearts.

I have planted the love of your Jesus in their lives.

Now I turn to you:

Let my children treasure the gift of Jesus

and make their own the faith I have offered them.

Nourish the seed of God sown in them,

and bring it to abundant life.

Protect my children from the spiritual and moral dangers of this world,

as you so carefully protected your Jesus from the physical threats to his life.

Bless my children with a constant awareness

of God’s infinite and merciful love for them.

Fill them with wisdom to discern God’s awesome dream for them.

Provide them with the strength necessary

to live out with courage their faith

as members of the Catholic Church whose Patron you are.

Amen.
