The Kitchen Crew is an integral part of the COR Retreat. It is a service of love and care to the people experiencing the COR Retreat. It has many purposes:
- To meet an obvious need (food!) of the retreatants
- To provide some entertainment for them
- To keep the kitchen, dining hall and the SLYRC overall clean and functional
- To encourage, assist, shower with care and love the participants on the retreat
- To free the adults for their important tasks as leaders of a COR weekend
The Kitchen Crew experience is reserved for members of the COR family. There are 2 forms of service in kitchen crew: as a Kitchen Crew Team Member or as a Visiting Kitchen Crew Member.
The Kitchen Crew Team commits the whole weekend to the service of the COR retreat.
A limited number of teens and young adults forms the Kitchen Crew Team. Candidates must register by a published deadline.
Selected members participate in one or more planning meetings, sign a commitment form, and serve the COR Retreat participants at the SLYRC throughout the weekend.
The Kitchen Crew Team members may arrive at the SLYRC at 7:00 PM on Friday and leave after lunch clean-up on Sunday. A number of Team members commit to stay till the very end of the COR weekend, assisting with the general clean-up after the participants leave.
With their presence and precious assistance, Visiting Members offer the COR retreat participants a powerful sign of the love that surrounds the weekend. Also, they offer the COR Retreat participants a sense of the care, affection, spirit of sacrifice, commitment to service and closeness among members which exists within the COR family in general.
Visiting Members join the COR weekend for the Saturday Evening Meal Celebrations ("Agape") and for the Sunday Mass. Either or both celebrations are available to them.
Upon arrival at the SLYRC, they register, review and sign a commitment form. Then they make themselves available to the Adults and the Kitchen Crew Team for whatever service may be requested: setting tables, decorating, serving, entertaining, cleaning up.
Visiting Members helping with the "Agape" meal may arrive at the SLYRC no earlier than 4:00 PM. They will leave the SLYRC soon after. For the Sunday Liturgy, they may arrive by 11:00am and will leave after the Mass.
