COR is the Latin word for “heart”.
The acronym “C.O.R.” stands for “Christ in Others Retreat”.

Checks are made out to: "The Congregation of St. Joseph.".
The fee covers all expenses for the weekend, including meals.

The theme of family, community. The theme of becoming real. The theme of honesty, trust, love and friendship. The theme of openness to God’s compassionate Grace and to others.
The C.O.R. is for young people who are at least 15 years of age. Second semester high school freshmen are also welcome, as well as, young, college-age adults. Individuals or couples older than 25 are placed in the “adult team”.
C.O.R. welcomes non-Catholics whenever they are sponsored by a Catholic teen, young adult or adult. All participants in the retreat follow the same schedule and complete the same activities, regardless of religious background.
C.O.R. is facilitated by a married couple supported by a “back-up couple”. C.O.R. seeks new couples (“rookie couples”) to become members of the retreat’s Adult Team.
A priest is present at all C.O.R. Retreats from beginning to end. He is responsible for the celebration of the Sacraments (Eucharist and Reconciliation) and provides the necessary spiritual guidance.
C.O.R. is held at the St. Leonard Youth Retreat Center in Avon, OH. The center offers a large meeting room, a small chapel, two dormitories with bunk beds (each dormitory - one for males, one for females - accommodates 32 persons) and showers, a large dining hall, a full kitchen.
Check out a full listing of St. Leonard's offerings on the Outdoor & Indoor Facilities pages.
C.O.R. is normally held 3 times a year: in September, January and April.
The C.O.R. Retreat begins at 9:00 PM on Friday night and ends at approximately 8:00 PM on Sunday.
Comfortable everyday clothing; a set of nice clothes (such as a dress or suit, if possible); personal hygiene items; soft drinks, snacks to share; sleeping bag, pillow, towel; hiking shoes or boots.
Small youth groups are welcome. Actually, C.O.R. is an ideal program for parishes with youth groups too small to celebrate their own retreat. Best results are achieved, however, when no more than 12 individuals from the same youth group participate at a time.
The minimum number of participants is 30. The maximum number accepted is 55.
A typical C.O.R. Retreat welcomes young people from 10 to 15 different schools from the greater Cleveland area and beyond.
Extremely religious in the sense that the Grace of God is constantly at work in all its power during a C.O.R. retreat. Strictly “religious” activities, however (such as mass, prayer services, etc.) are limited and well distributed over the weekend so as to not become burdensome to those who may not be very familiar with Catholic liturgy or prayer, or any type of worship.
No. The very nature of the C.O.R. retreat requires that participants stay on the weekend from beginning to end.
Yes. The activities of Friday evening, though important, allow for young people with serious reasons (games to play, band performance, cheerleading, etc.) to arrive later than 9:00 PM that evening.
No. The last part of the C.O.R. retreat is crucial to the fulfillment of the program’s goals.
